This small, thorny tree resembles something between a maple and a devil's walking stick. I found a few of them on the west side of the Forbidden Road area of Fairmount Park.

The leaves turn yellow and fall, and the trees were bare by early November.

The thorny spikes are about the same size as those of a devil's walking stick.
